The welcome is easy and the social life generous, yet many newcomers find themselves surrounded by other foreigners in the same situation, or by locals whose circles go back decades. Dating in Spain online helps you find the people in between who are single and want to meet.

Dating culture in Spain: late evenings and long walks
Spanish days run late. Dinner often starts later than in northern Europe, so a first date might be an evening paseo, a walk through the old town, before anything to eat. Plans can also be made on the day; spontaneity is part of the charm.
Social life is lively and often happens in groups, so meeting someone's friends early is normal. Greeting with two kisses, one on each cheek, is common; follow your date's lead.
The expat community in Spain is spread widely: the big cities, the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic and Canary Islands all have their own scenes. Set your distance to your own area first, especially on an island.

Safe dating in Spain
- Plazas and promenades. Busy plazas and promenades make for safe first dates. Keep the chat on ExpatSingles until you have met: an alert appears if a match tries to continue on WhatsApp or similar, and the Policía Nacional gives the same advice, to keep talking inside the app where moderators can help.
- Never send money. The Policía Nacional also warns never to send money to an online love interest, whatever the excuse. Victims should save screenshots, the profile and payment receipts and report it at a police station; the Guardia Civil also accepts online complaints about fraud. INCIBE's free helpline, 017, gives confidential cybersecurity advice every day.
- Bank transfer sent? If you sent money by bank transfer, contact your bank as soon as possible. In an emergency call 112, or 091 for the Policía Nacional.
